Local Community Education Courses The Valley Learning Center offers programs that can help expand your skills, start a new hobby, meet new friends or just learn something new. The classes are designed to provide introductory level instruction or information on a wide variety of subjects. Community Education Courses Learn for the love of it! Taking A Cruise ClassDue to limited enrollment size, registration will be on a first-come first–serve basis. Pre-registration required, you can register by calling or visiting the Valley Learning Center, or by completing the form and mailing it, emailing it or dropping it off at the Valley Learning Center. Basic Beginning Quilting G Niemi Do you want to learn beginner quilting the easy way? Beginner quilters often feel overwhelmed. That’s why we created this class. Sign-up and let Gale take you by the hand and show you the ropes. It’s easier than you think! Our first class will be a discussion about quilting supplies; rotary cutting and fabric (how much do you need and what goes together). You will have hands on experience as you cut out several blocks and receive instructions on how to sew them together properly. Take them to sew and bring the finished blocks to the next class for a Q & A session and discussion, followed up by a demo of different quilting techniques. Nature/Still Life Photo Shoot & Critique S Anderson The title says it all. This is a photo shoot and critique class. The first session we will discuss some of the most common mistakes made in photography and look at options to correct or minimize the problem. The second session the group will meet at VLC and then we will go out for a photo shoot using tips discussed. Art for Kids I L Voss Mrs. Voss holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and has many years of experience teaching children. She has brought to young children a fun and exciting opportunity to experience art in a “hands on” fashion. Children will be introduced to basic art appreciation with an introduction to the types of art focusing on three areas: portraiture, still life and cityscape. The class will also experience some of the different art media and be using several different ones such as water color and pastel. In portraiture the child will create a self portrait using photography and water color. The still life project will be a drawn image of a toy done in pastels. The cityscape will be a poster using tissue paper and acrylic paint. All projects will be mounted and made ready for the Art Kids Art Walk in the spring where the children will show off their work.
