Local Community Education Courses The Valley Learning Center offers programs that can help expand your skills, start a new hobby, meet new friends or just learn something new. The classes are designed to provide introductory level instruction or information on a wide variety of subjects. Arts, Crafts & HobbiesDigital Photography S Anderson Digital photography is here to stay and you can make your photos shine with this popular class! Topics for this class include: camera options, picture resolution types, image correction, output options and emailing digital photos. Bring a lunch and your camera and learn the latest information on digital photography. In the afternoon, you will have time to be in the computer lab and practice some photo editing techniques. ComputersBasics of Microsoft Office Word S Anderson In a hands-on lab setting each student will have your own computer and will do everything we talk about. This class will be using MS Word 2007. We will learn how to type in different fonts and sizes, learn about themes, learn cut, copy, paste, highlighting. We will learn how to shrink a document to fit a page, preview your work before printing, how to insert symbols, spell check, proofing tools, add bullets and numbers. Class Limit 7 Microsoft Office Word II In a hands-on lab setting each student will have your own computer and will do everything we talk about. We will be using Word 2007. This class will cover inserting tables, page breaks, headers and footers, margins, and different alignments. We will cover inserting clip art, and word art, text boxes, and adjusting table boxes, sorting tables, thesaurus, adjusting images and wrapping. Prerequisites: Basics of Microsoft Office Word class offered 1/23/2008 or basic knowledge in creating word documents. Class Limit 7 Basics of Microsoft Excel S Anderson In a hands-on setting we will be learning MS Excel 2007. This class will start by setting up a spreadsheet. We will learn how to use simple formulas, use different sheets, format cells to currency and other numbering properties, manage rows and columns and sort data. We will learn how to create professional charts and graphs with data and paste them into Word documents. We will learn how to change colors and patterns in graphs and name graph areas. Prerequisites: Basic Microsoft Word knowledge. Class Limit 7 Microsoft Excel II S Anderson In a hands-on lab setting each student will have your own computer and will do everything we talk about with MS Excel 2007. This class will cover more advanced applications than the beginning classes. For questions on your ability to handle this class, please talk to instructor. Class Limit 7 Basics of Microsoft Power Point S Anderson In a hands-on lab setting each student will have your own computer and will do everything we talk about. In this class we will make a professional presentation using charts, words, pictures, music, and many animation effects. Class Limit 7 Intro to Computer Graphics & Desktop Publishing S Anderson If you have ever had a graphic (picture) file that you couldn’t open or you just want a basic understanding of the different types of graphic files, this is the class for you. In this class you will go over the basics of the different kinds of graphics and their uses. Class members will also review some different Desktop Publishing programs. This will help you decide which programs will serve your needs best. There will be time in the afternoon to be in the computer lab for “hands-on” experience. Bring your lunch and prepare for a very informative class! Class Limit 7 Basics of Microsoft Outlook S Anderson In a hands-on lab setting each student will have their own computer with Outlook 2007. This class will cover: Creating and sending emails, attaching documents and pictures, setting up and using an electronic address book, creating folders for incoming messages, setting up your own personal calendar with reminders and creating notes and tracking tasks. Students should have knowledge of basic computer usage. Class Limit 7 Basics of Microsoft Publisher S Anderson The last in the series of Microsoft Office is Publisher. Come learn how to make professional looking publications. Scott will show you how to make brochures, calendars, flyers, greeting cards, business cards, and newsletters using the Publisher templates. Class Limit 7 Computers for Seniors Word G Dorcheus This class is for Senior citizens only! Come and learn from Glen how to use the word processor on a computer. In this program you will learn how to write letters and print them. Class Limit 4 Computers for Seniors Search the Internet G Dorcheus This class is for Senior Citizens only! Come and learn how to search for information on the internet. The information you can get off the internet is endless and easy to find! This class is taught by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERTS). They are trained to help the local emergency responders in times of disaster and prepare you for emergencies. Practitioners of Tae Kwon Do increase flexibility, strength, endurance and balance through regular training. If practiced properly, Tae Kwon Do has a healing affect on the body and mind. Tae Kwon Do is for everyone, beginners and intermediate levels welcome! Some of the best martial artists in the world started at 5 years of age and seniors can gain as much from practice as their grand children. Extension (782-7423 ext.3) The Cent$ible Nutrition Program offers free nutrition classes. Fun lessons include basic cooking, menu planning, saving money at the grocery store, reading food labels, feeding young children and more. Cent$ible Nutrition is designed to help low income families eat better for less, and participants receive a computer diet analysis and may qualify to receive a free cookbook. This class is designed for the beginning dog five-six months old (depending on size) and older. No dog is too old. Our goal is for your pet to become a pleasure to be around whether at home or on an outing. This course will enable you to train your dog to be a welcome member of the family. Behavior issues will be addressed, and good behaviors taught. Plan on spending 15-20 minutes each day working with your pet to gain maximum benefit from these classes. Instruction focuses on the following: All dogs are required to be current on all vaccinations. Proof of vaccinations must be submitted PRIOR to the first class. The water supports your body while it tones and helps to firm your muscles. Swimming skills are not required. Water Safety Instructor Lyman High School Pool Must be 16 years old and pass a swimming test to take the course.
